Testing Bar

MA Nordic, in union with MAC, can successfully inspect cold finished, hot rolled, round or square billets and bars as cut lengths or in continuous production lines. Eddy Current (ET) equipment such as the MAC 400 or the MultiMac® is available for testing short surface and subsurface defects using encircling coils or rotary probes for long continuous surface defects. Ultrasonic (UT) inspection equipment such as the Echomac® FD-4 can be used to test bars and billets for internal longitudinal and transverse defects.

The Varimac® and the Production Comparator may also be used to detect alloy and hardness, and the Rotomac® BQ can test bars at elevated temperatures.

An example of a complete test system incorporating some of MAC’s best featured products would be an ET and UT inspection system for testing cut length steel bar from 22.2 to 127mm in diameter. Included are a 125 Echomac UT inspection system and a 550 Multimac ET rotary system with a demagnetizer.

This system may detect all common defects typical of steel bars including laps, seams, cracks, voids, slivers, and tears.

The electronics are housed in an environmental cabinet and can be accessed directly or through a network drive. MA Nordic also provides inlet and outlet conveyors (with sorting pockets), feeding systems, a constant center triple bench with slide and elevate mechanisms, and a water recirculation system for the UT.
