TEST BENCHES & DRIVES
Constant Center Triple Benches
A constant center triple drive roll bench is an option for mounting the various mechanical components for MAC test systems. The bench eliminates vibrations from the test material that can cause false reject signals. A triple pinch is mounted between each test station on the bench. Each pinch, driven by a separate AC motor, uses three hardened steel rolls to center the test material. A frequency converter controls the AC motors to guarantee equal speed for all of the pinches. Slide mechanisms are available to allow access to test heads for off line setup and maintenance.

The entire bench can be adjusted up and down to align the test coils and heads with the level of the incoming test material. Adjusting the bench height and the opening of the triple pinches for changes in test material dimension is accomplished automatically through the Conductor controls. Constant center benches are often used when testing products such as tubes with badly formed ends, upset pipe or difficult straightening applications.

Triple Bench models are available to handle up to125 mm, 165 mm, and 220 mm diameter test material. The 125 mm is designed for tube testing, while the 160 and 220 mm benches are designed to handle both tubes and bars. Larger sizes are available upon request.

"V" Roll Test Benches
The various coil platforms and rotary mechanics described above can be mounted on a MAC test bench which aligns the test material with the test sensors. MAC’s standard test bench utilizes 120 degree "V" rolls and pinch stands to support and position the test material. The fixed bottom “V” rolls, in conjunction with a flat top roll, provide 3 points of contact and ensure firm support for the test material, eliminating vibration that can cause false indications. Automated or manual controls adjust the pinch stand rolls to the size of the test material.

Drive Mechanisms provide forward movement of the test material through the coil platforms and rotary mechanics where needed. Individual elevating platforms are usually included on the test bench for positioning larger rotary mechanics. 90 degree rolls are also available for square material. Auto diameter controls are available to automate adjustments of the testers and drives when the test material diameter is changed.

"V" Roll Pinch Stands
Automated or manual Pinch Stands help eliminate vibration that can interfere with the test, and ensure that the test material is properly positioned as it enters and leaves the test sensors. Pinch stands can be mounted on a test bench, or directly on a production line.

FEED SYSTEMS

MAC's standard Feed System's modular design permits quick assembly into many configurations to handle various lengths of material, and allows for later additions or changes. Systems can incorporate automated reject and accept controls. Both round and hexagonal material can be accommodated. Models are available for handling bars, shapes or tubing ranging in size from 1/8" (3.18mm) up to 7-1/2" (191mm).

Custom automated metric feed systems are available to handle bar, shapes and tube. Systems include automated reject and accept controls, belt driven or chain driven conveyors. Mac offers several different styles of feed systems and conveyors to meet the varying requirements of our customers' at the most economical prices.

OCTG

For oil country tubular goods and similar large diameter product MAC offers our heavy duty conveyors that include the option of articulated rolls to handle upset pipe. These conveyors come in modular 3 meter sections so that configurations can easily be designed to handle any length of pipe. The systems are designed to be adjusted once during installation and to require no further adjustment for alignment during the life of the system. Each roll is driven by a separate motor allowing the spacing of tubes to be adjusted for optimum throughput and minimum untested ends. These systems can be produced to handle tubes up to 400mm in diameter with heavy wall.

Precision Tubes and High Quality Bar

For precision tubes and other high quality product the first priority is to prevent damage to the product by the handling system. To this end MAC offers a couple of different options. First of all is our conventional conveyors designed for lighter product which can be equipped with special handling mechanisms to lower or raise the bar or tube gently on to the conveyors from a feed table. MAC offers both pick and place type mechanisms used with conventional sloped feed tables as well as specially designed motorized feed tables that allow bundles of product (particularly long small diameter) to be lowered on to a flat table where specially designed belts and stops spread the product out and straighten out the product so that it can be properly placed on the conveyor. Alternative placement mechanisms are available that can lift bars or tubes up to conveyors that are higher than the feed tables.

Another alternative to conventional V roll conveyors for small diameter precision product is our V belt conveyors. These conveyors are built around sets of two belts formed in a v and offer the advantage that very unstable product cannot sag as is possible between V rolls and in addition because of complete contact with the soft bets minimizes the chance for damage.

Hot Rolled and Other non critical Standard Sized Product

Finally, MAC offers a series of v roll conveyors that are geared toward economy for those applications where the size of the product is not very small or very large and the delicacy of handling is not a concern. These conveyors are offered in various sizes and are composed of modular 6 foot sections that can easily be configured for any length and the most common diameters of product. Both steel and urethane rolls are available and there are options for both belt and chain drives. Feed tables are available as well as pockets for accept and reject sorting.

All of MAC's conveyors can be configured with any of our testers and benches to provide a complete off line test system. In addition each system comes with either a PLC for automatic control of the mechanics or our CONDUCTOR computer with sophisticated technology to monitor the entire line showing all aspects of the test process and creating combined reports from multiple testers.

MECHANICS FOR MOUNTING TEST SENSORS
Encircling & tangent Nordic coil platforms with or without Dc saturation

The 65mm Coil Platform can use standard and segmented encircling coils or tangent (sector) coils, on magnetic and non-magnetic material. Other sizes include the 125mm and the 225mm.

By using a floating head option, the coil platform can follow the movement of the tube or bar under test. This feature is useful for tube weld mills and bar and wire drawing benches where the material under test tends to move around. The 65mm Coil Platform can be used with encircling or segmented eddy current applications. An advanced tangent weld inspection system can include the floating head option with the 65mm coil platform to inspect TIG and Laser welded tube.

Rotary Mechanics for Eddy Current Systems

Where rotating eddy current probes are being used, they are housed in a rotary headplate, mounted in rotary mechanics that include a motor for spinning the headplate with its test probes around the material under test. Current rotaries feature continuously variable high speed rotaries (1800 – 6000 RPM), capable of handling test material up to 191 mm (7-1/2”) diameter.

Rotary Mechanics for Ultrasonic Systems

MAC’s Echomac® UT Rotary rotates ultrasonic transducers for shear-wave and compression-wave configuration at high throughput speeds. Standard models handle material from 6.3 mm to 220 mm (1/4” to 9”) at test speeds up to 400 fpm, depending on the size and condition of the test material.

Rotary Mechanics for Flux Leakage Systems

Flux leakage test systems incorporate rotating test probes, mounted in a rotary headplate assembly. Current systems are available to handle up to 406 mm (16”) diameter and 19 mm (3/4”) wall thickness. Picture shows the headplate with test probe assemblies and magnetizing pole pieces for detecting longitudinal defects. Rotary mechanisms designed for detecting transverse defects are also available.

ACCESSORIES
MAC offers a complete range of accessories including pinch stands, drives, encoders, optical sensors, paint markers, environmental cabinets, demagnetizers (for use with eddy current and flux leakage systems on magnetic product), and water recirculation cooling systems, (for ultrasonic tests).
