Multiple & Custom NDT Systems

Magnetic Analysis Nordic along with MAC-USA offers large automated multiple test systems that combine different NDT technologies and controls to provide a totally automated, integrated inspection system. By combining different tests, such as eddy current, ultrasonic and/or flux leakage with appropriate electronics, benches, inlet and outlet conveyors, controls, and paint markers in one system, each technology detects the conditions that it is best suited to find while surpassing the industry standards. The result is a superior inspection system, designed to meet the exact specifications of the mill and their customers, thus resulting in a quality product, better brand recognition, increased sales and ROI.

An example of a large, integrated system recently installed to inspect OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) includes MAC’s Rotoflux® transverse and longitudinal flux leakage inspection systems, a demagnetizer, and an Echomac® ultrasonic test system to inspect heavy wall, hot rolled, straight or upset end pipe. The system was designed to inspect pipe diameters from 60mm to 220mm (2.36”-8.6”) with wall thickness up to 20mm (0.78”) at test speeds ranging from 60m/min (295 fpm) for upset end and straight pipe.

The total system also includes inlet and outlet conveyors comprised of driven V-rolls that are articulated. This means that they can be moved up or down allowing the upset ends to pass. The inlet conveyor feeds the pipe through the system which is on a triple guide constant center bench. The bench is designed to open for upset ends and close automatically after the leading or trailing end has passed. The outlet conveyor then transports the pipes from the test and into accept or reject sorting pockets. This system is complete with the Rotoflux® and Echomac® FD-4 electronics, a water system, automatic markers, and a Conductor control system.
